that's all very well, but alhough we were using ubuntu 8.xx LTS we were
forced to use 9 non-LTS when we bought some Dell R710 (dual xeon
L5520-based) servers as the 64 bit kernel didn't work with the memory
controller.  After we gave up nagging for a back-ported kernel and fired
up 9.04, it emerged later tan the ubuntu people simply didn't have a
machine of that class for testing (had they said, we could have set
something up for them, we did have 37 servers so one could have been set
aside one for testing :-)
