I think you're addressing me, not Alastair.  It's a Linux problem, not
an Ubuntu problem:

Hasn't bothered me enough to switch, although I probably will, as the
"weight" of Ubuntu seems to be creeping up and my laptop's not getting
any faster (and is now maxxed out at 1GB of RAM).
