Rant 2: oh dear, it's another Ubuntu x.10 release

Sigh - I don't know I keep getting so excited. I dutifully download each new
Ubuntu release (once it reaches RC stage) and test it out, with a view to
then upgrading my systems ahead of the 'final' release rush. But with every
x.10 release, I'm gravely disappointed.

It is just me, or are they on a seriously consistent 'alternate release'
cycle? All of the x.04 (incl Dapper) releases, LTS or otherwise, have
generally been solid and usable. But every x.10 release, without exception,
has been a howler, with one or more showstopping problems.

So far, I've only tried 9.10 UNR on my EeePC 901 netbook. It won't even
finish booting - and yes, I've tried every 'safe' option, and I've checked
and passed the media test. I can get as far as a root console, but no
graphics beyond the new boot splash thing. And yes, 9.04 installed and
worked first time and has worked ever since, without a hitch.

So, on UNR 9.04 my netbook stays. I'll see what happens with the 'main'
versions on my proper machines, but it's already given me a bad taste. I
know it's early days, but has anyone else tried it yet? Any thoughts?

Cheers
AL
