I do indeed - http://identi.ca/johnnieingram - but I have to confess
that it's barely used. My twitter account (@johnnieingram) is far more
active. Why? Well, whilst I love the idea of identi.ca and the
open-source fanboi in me delights in the idea of an open-source
microblogging platform, the plain fact is that close to 100% of my
contacts use twitter rather than identi.ca. As far as I'm concerned, the
entire point of either system comes from the people you follow and who
follow you. A microblogging service which just consists of me talking to
myself (which is what identi.ca effectively is for me) is therefore
broken, as far as my subjective user-story is concerned, at least.
Pragmatism has to come before principals in this case, unfortunately.
For the same reason, I have closed-source graphics drivers installed for
the nvidia card in my main home machine. If I didn't, I wouldn't be able
to play World Of Warcraft (at which point, I very much suspect, I would
take my own life).
Still, having now established that several members of this list do
indeed have reasonably active identi.ca accounts, the service has
suddenly become far more practically useful for me. Consider yourselves
duly followed. That's what all the cool kids are doing, you know.
