I just tried the instructions there and I saw the same errors, but
gedit opened up OK despite them, and I got skype installed really
easily. When you tried did the gedit window not open up? If so you
could create the skpe.repo file in your home directory and then copy
it to the correct directory as root.

It's talking about a local server on your machine, not something on
the net.

The next planned meeting will be the second Sunday of November (8th),
unless anyone is keen enough they want to arrange anything before that.
