Help with Linpus required.

Hi 
Can anyone help me overcome the "internal error - failed to initialize HAL!" problem that I have on my Acer Aspire ONE netbook which is running Linpus Linux Lite V1.0.3.E?
At the moment the computer is unable to connect to the internet and does not recognize any USB periferals.
Even if I could, I don't want to resinstall the operating system, if I can possibly avoid it, because to do so would wipe out my documents.
