Is that dm-crypt based then?

Which are the tools for this built-in encryption in Ubuntu?

Looking at synaptic I've found 
cfs - uses DES? - filelevel encryption
cryptmount: dm-crypt? ;  sets up encrypted folumes
cryptsetup: dm-crypt / cryptoloop ; similar
encfs - file level encryption

For backup:
duplicity for backup
Rsyncrypto ; rsync friendly
