I didn't mention it because I've never heard of it!  Sounds interesting 
though.

In my experience, all the routing has been taken care of by the hosting 
company that provided the dedicated servers.  They assign a bunch of IPs 
  to the server and that's all you need to know.  One host I use 
(RapidSwitch) allows IPs to be reassigned between servers via a 
web-based control panel, but only if the servers are in the same data 
centre.

If I have 2 dedicated servers in 2 different data centres run by 2 
different hosting companies, can I use BGP or is that out of my hands? 
How does it help avoid network outages?
