Software Freedom Day and laptops.

Hi all,

I'd just like to say it was good to meet all who were there in market square.

I was quite surprised by the number of people who were wandering up
and taking an interest even during the brief time I was there.

Later in the afternoon I went into carphone warehouse, they do have
those webbook machines set-up in every store running a full ubuntu
OS.... again I was quite surprised.

Later still I happened to be in John Lewis and was checking out the
computer section as I tend to do. They have the Acer Aspire One for
sale for the same price as the carphone warehouse webbooks. It is
running Linpus which (apart from being an awful name) is pretty
limited in terms of functionality. But they have a large harddisk and
run on the intel atom processor rather than the via chip in webboks so
I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem installing real linux OS installed.

I was so shocked to find so many linux based laptops (netbooks) on
sale on the high street. Sorry if this is old news to everyone else
but it was an eyeopener for me.

Anyway it'd be good to meet up and talk about geeky stuff, when is the
next get together likely to be?
