When I suggested those bullet points I was thinking very plain and
simple - no CSS, nothing fancy, just plain HTML. Anyone with access
to the web server to change it will be able to write raw HTML,
right? As for change, how often does the mailing list or meeting
location actually change, every few years?

Based on the current site text, here's what I was thinking (HTML below).

<html>
<head><title>CLUG - Cambridge Linux User Group</title></head>
<body>
<h1>CLUG - Cambridge Linux User Group</h1>
<p>We are a diverse collection of people all with a common interest
in the <a href="http://www.fsf.org/philosophy/free-sw.html">free</a>,
<a href="http://www.opensource.org/">open source</a> operating system
Linux and FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) in general. Most of
us are in or around Cambridge, UK.</p>

<h2>Mailing List</h2>
<p>CLUG has reasonably active mailing list which is used for general
Linux issues, organising meetings, the website and other stuff.</p>
<p><a href="http://lists.infowares.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/clug"
title="Subscribe to CLUG Mailing List">Subscribe to CLUG Mailing
List</a></p>
<p><a href="http://lists.infowares.com/archive/clug/" title="CLUG
Mailing List Archives">CLUG Mailing List Archives</a></p>

<h2>Meetings</h2>
<p>Meetings happen on the second Sunday of each month at <a
href="http://www.cb1.com/cb2/" title="CB2">CB2</a>, which is a very
nice and internet-connected cafe in the center of Cambridge city.</p>
<p><em>CB2 is just off East Road, opposite Burleigh Street, and a
couple of minutes walk from the Grafton Centre and the cinema
complex.</em></p>

<h2>Acknowledgements</h2>
<p>Our new mailing list is maintained by Thomas Horsten. He also
provides this server and the necessary bandwidth to this group.
Thanks Thomas!</p>
<p>Our old mailing lists were set up and maintained by Steffen
Moeller, one of the original CLUG members. The old lists provided
years of steadfast service, which was only possible because of the
hard work and dedication he gave to the group. Thanks Steffen!</p>
